Sickness, Absence & Appointments
Illness and Absence Reporting
If your child is clearly unwell before the start of the school day, please keep them at home — especially if they have an infectious condition. Children should only return to school once they are well enough to participate fully in the school day and are no longer a risk to others.
To report an absence, please call the school office as soon as possible:
📞 01455 843840 – and leave a message
If we do not hear from you, we may carry out a home visit, as we are responsible for ensuring your child’s safety and welfare.
If your child becomes ill during the school day and is unable to continue, we will contact you to arrange for them to be collected.
⚠️ Please note: Persistent or frequent absence is monitored closely and may be investigated.
Medical & Dental Appointments
Wherever possible, please arrange medical, dental, or hospital appointments outside of school hours. We understand that this isn’t always possible. If your child needs to attend an appointment during the school day, please forward a copy of the appointment letter or confirmation to:
Term-Time Holidays & Other Absence
Permission for absence during term time is granted at the discretion of the Head Teacher and is typically only approved in exceptional circumstances.
In line with Leicestershire Education Authority policy, we strongly discourage taking children out of school for holidays or other planned events during term time. Missing school can have a significant impact on both learning and social development.
While we understand that holidays are often cheaper during term time, we ask families to consider the long-term impact on their child’s education. Please be aware that:
-
Unauthorised absences are reported to the LEA
-
Parents may be issued with a fine
If you wish to request a term-time absence for your child, please email the school office with full details:
