Our aspiration for readers and writers at St Peter’s
At St Peter’s, we see English as a key cornerstone of the curriculum upon which many other subjects are built. We aim to develop children’s literacy abilities through immersion in a language rich environment which offers abundant opportunities for children to practice their Speaking, Reading and Writing. Our English Curriculum ensures that all pupils (through high quality teaching and learning) leave our school with not only a solid foundation of English skills, but a love of reading that they will take forward into their futures.
We use the ‘Pie Corbett’ teaching sequence for both reading and writing. These are called ‘Talk for Reading’ and ‘Talk for Writing’ and the teaching sequences are detailed below. The sequences are based around a book spine populated by high quality texts, that challenge the children.
