Relationship, Sex and Health Education

“I have come that you might have life and have it to the full” –
John.10: 10

RSHE

We are involved in relationships and sex education precisely because of our Christian beliefs about God and about the human person. The belief in the unique dignity of the human person made in the image and likeness of God underpins the approach to all education in a Catholic school. Our approach to RSHE therefore is rooted in the Catholic Church’s teaching of the human person and presented in a positive framework of Christian ideals.

At the heart of the Christian life is the Trinity; Father, Son and Spirit in communion, united in loving relationship and embracing all people and all creation. As a consequence of the Christian belief that we are made in the image and likeness of God, gender and sexuality are seen as God’s gift, reflect God’s beauty, and share in the divine creativity. RSHE, therefore, will be placed firmly within the context of relationship as it is there that sexuality grows and develops.

The RSHE programme that we follow is called ‘Life to the Full.’ It was developed by Ten: Ten Resources who are a Catholic Education online site. We felt that this was a suitable programme to follow as not only is it based on the Model RSE Curriculum as outlined by the CES, but it would also help to ensure that the delivery of our RS(H)E programme was within a Catholic context. The specific RS(H)E curriculum consists of 3 modules which are covered throughout the year. These are:

1 – Created & Loved By God (Advent Term)

2 – Created To Love Others (Lent Term)

3 – Created To Live In Community (Pentecost Term)

Each module will consist of units of work that allow our children to explore different areas of learning related to the module being studied. Each module will be underpinned by religious understanding to ensure that we are teaching our RS(H)E programme within a Catholic context that is pertinent to the school. The reasoning for covering the modules in this way is because the work in the Religious understanding unit of each module, links to work that is covered in the Come & See programme during that term also.

‘Life to the Full’ is a fully resourced programme which makes use of resources such as:

  • Prayers
  • Songs
  • Stories
  • Animated short films
  • A short series called Paradise Street (Years 5 and 6 only)

Parent Portal

Life to the Full also has an online parent portal that you can access. This online portal contains:
