In Year 5 our reading and writing lessons are usually based around good quality books and texts with an aim to enrich the students’ vocabulary and comprehension.

We use Talk4Writing teaching styles to enable all children to succeed.

Our fiction unit this half term will focus on character change in a meeting tale.

Our non-fiction unit this half term will focus on writing a persuasive letter

Our Class Book

In this half term, we will be looking at the topic Enough for Everyone.

In Year 5 we know how important keeping fit and healthy is. We do two PE lessons a week. This half term we will be learning how to play tennis and dancing with each other – Greek dancing!

Our PE lessons take place on a Wednesday and a Friday – don’t forget your PE kit!

Art – Typography

This pathway aims to give pupils the opportunity to explore the work of designers who work with font and typography. Pupils go on to create their own typography and develop their skills further in a visual map project.

Design and Technology – Making a stuffed toy
This half term, the children will design a Christmas themed stuffed toy, considering the main component shapes of their toy. They will then create an appropriate template for their stuffed toy. They will be using various decorative stitches to sew pieces of fabric together and then use appliqués or decorative stitching to decorate the front of their stuffed toy.

French – Space Exploration

This unit transports children into space, developing their scientific vocabulary as well as their grammar. Pupils develop their listening and language detective skills, use figurative language and develop their sentence structure by adding adjectives, using prepositions and making simple adjectival comparisons.
